The Des Plaines River is the site of the Des Plaines River Canoe & Kayak Marathon. The Des Plaines River Trail (DPRT) is a 31.4 mile (41 miles planned) hiking and paddling trail leading from the Wisconsin/Illinois border all the way through Lake County and almost to Chicago.
